Most clubs at this time of year are a little dormant, just waiting for summer to come around. It's also a good time to do a seach around and get your name down on there waiting lists for new membership. Quite often (I am on the comitey for our club) they will have a waiting lists, but alot of the people on them ,will of been from last year, who quite often when contacted have moved on, or are no longer interested. My point is, don't be put off by long waiting list, just keep pestering to show how keen you are. Club secraties my see your application as a certanty and get fed up with endless waisted letters to people that were in frount of you on the list.
