I would say don't worry about what level they say the board is pitched at. The differences between how boards feel is all preference, I learnt on an intermediate / advanced board and having ridden beginner intermediate boards it didn't seem to make a whole heap of difference, yet my board was still at the right level after my first season.

And dont worry about turning up at a lake with a great board and not being able to do any tricks, it's not that sort of sport.

My tip, get the best bindings you can afford, these are the most important things, these will save your ankles on a big fall.
