All board brand choice is just down to which company you like the most...
Hyperlite and Liquid Force are the Biggest with the most capital for sponsorship and advertising but all boards are made the same way (and in a lot of cases in the same factory!) Which board in a brands range you buy is a different matter, they all ride differently... find one you get on with, ask if you can test some.
One piece of advice I can give you is don't feel you have to buy the most expensive one, buy one that is designed for beginners if you are a beginner, buying one that locks in and edges at million miles an hour won't help you nail your surface 180s etc...
I'm riding a Liquid Force 'Evo' this year after having a 'Trip' last year, its a lot more fun to ride as its more forgiving... suits me!
