Default How many HP for an outboard?

Just saw the ad for the Dateline Bikini in the other forum, which prodded my memory. How many HP is recommended for an outboard on a boat like this. I have a friend at work who has one with a 75HP engine on it (which he thinks is over powered, doh!). I heard a minimum of 90HP is recommended.

Any comments? It would also require a tower or a pylon of some description. My main reason for asking is that he may be selling it cheaply as he wants another boat more suited for diving, and I have first refusal. I know I'll require a couple of fat lads in the back!

cheers

David

this all depends on how big the boat is... if we say that the dateline is the same as the boat you have been offered for examples sake then 75hp would be fine.

You cna boar behind anything with sufficiant horsepower to pull you out of the water and plane whilst towing you.. so around 40 hp up 8)

I used ot board behind a 30hp dory in the old days.. so a 75 behind that hull would be fine.

Second question - a tower or pylon will help.. but its not a neccestity. get the basics down and have some fun before spending more money, but if you want to pimp your ride straight away.. give meyself or a member of the team a call here at wakeboard towers UK on 01270 872161 and we will hook you up 8)

Hope that helps

Mike

Thanks. Sounds like that will do fine for the mean time. Like I say, I can get some fat guys in the back, and that should beef up the wake somewhat.

It's just a bit of extra fun with some friends. I ususally ride behind a Malibu with a tower at our ski club.

If I actually buy the boat, I would want some sort of pylon, though. I don't think it has even a low level ski pole at the moment, just some sort of connection points at the rear.

cheers

David
