Default more guts from a mercruiser 4.3I?

My friend has a Searay 195 with the 4.3 MPI and he wants better pull from it to get on the plane quicker, what prop should he be looking for apart from the standard 3 blade job that came with it?? The boat is run in saltwater, by the way and top end is of no concern.

I'd recommend a drop to a alumnium 17 pitch 4 blade (assuming he currently has a 19-21 pitch). This will be a bargain £120 or so.

If he has more cash then a stainless hi five would be great but expect to pay £350+

Cheers, cowboy! I knew you'd be on top of that.

How's the new rig looking?? Got her wet yet?

Hmmmm, does 5 blades make a difference over 4, apart from in the area for thrust that is, I don't want to be responsible for over-propping the guys rig!

The high 5 is a great prop. Plenty of grunt, good speed holding and top end is still very good.

Check what the pitch of his current prop is and also what the WOT RPMs are. That way you can check if the current prop is correct for the boat and how much you can get away with pitching without revving the nuts off the motor.
