Hi,

When filling from orange propane bottle's does anybody put an inline filter on the 8mm tube to the pump? I hear some of the reused bottle's have a lot of crap at the bottom of them.

Default How to get LPG into a marina berthed boat with no LPG

Hi All

Was interested to know how long it takes for the guys filling LPG with the transfer pump to fill up their boats. We are thinking of buying an LPG boat but the marina we store the boat in does not have LPG.

One option is to use the pump, but we would be completely filling it up every other time, and could do with knowing how long it will take to topup 100litres.

Another option is that a Tige dealer mentioned we could run directly off Fork Lift bottles, which would mean getting rid of the old tank, and using a 2 way regulator. Sounds a little ropey, I am thinking the transfer pump is the way to go....

My maxum runs on forklift bottles. They fit perfectly either side of the engine on a V drive boat. Local gas dealer even delivers them to my door for free! Works out to be around 55P per litre

However I've just sourced a pair of 100L tanks to go in as I now have my own bulk LPG tank and thats even cheaper.

Forklift bottles don't suit a 196 though. I've got to convert one of them in the next few weeks and I've got a static tank to go in place of the petrol one.

Default Hi Jay

Reading up about the FL bottles, the connection is at the bottom, have u just dropped yours in either side of the engine? I assume they would not work in a 196 due to their not being enough depth behind the rear seat? I suppose another plan could be to add another 100 ltr tank, and fill up every 2 weeks using a xfer pump (sounds like a long job though). Any other ideas?

FLT's need to be mounted horizontally and will have an arrow painted on the bottom to show the correct orientation. I made a couple of cradles to hold them inplace with a ratchet strap to secure them. You will need to be a big guy to lift a full one in and out of a boat on a trailer though. They weigh about 40KG full and lifting that to head height is a good warm up!

I converted a sportque direct drive and there wasn't enough room where the petrol tank was to but 2 tanks side by side so it just had one in the rear and another up front to change over. Looking at the below pic from the2001 you might do it on a wider beam boat like a 196. Below are composite refillable tanks used in Belgium. They are similar capacity to 18KG FLT's so it might be possible.

I'd advise against a 196 for coastal use but that's a whole other thread!

Thanks for the update Jay, I see what you mean re: there not being enough space. Will have to look at the pump I think, and or carry on hunting for other boats.
