Default mercruiser warranties

Has anyone out there ever made a claim under warranty for a replacement gimbal bearing on an alpha 1 gen 2 sterndrive. I have been told that there is the possibility the bearings can wear prematurely, heat up and destroy a rubber washer allowing water to pass into the bellows and do all sorts of damage. My warranty ran out a couple of weeks ago and my dealer says thats it. Is this really case or do mercruiser have a heart!!!

If its a known problem with the part, then there is a chance you will get some warranty help - either free issue parts or the labour cost - but probably not both.

A friend of mine had a similar warranty issue, and his local dealer got it sorted via the UK agent/distributor.

So don't give up - keep trying all avenues - and good luck!

Yeah, to be honest I'd try the UK distributor directly - they have the most power.

The company is E.P Barrus - google them for contact details.
However they may say that because they didn't handle the sale of the engine (American boat I assume) it's not their prob - however it's their dealers and their parts that fix it so I'd suggest you have some come back there...
If that still fails hit your boat manufacturer - at the top UK level first then state side.

Hope that helps.

Mike
