Default Which Head Unit????

Hi,

I have just responded to a thread on setero setup and it got me thinking.

At the moment I have 6 speaker set up. The 4 standard "in boat" speakers are running through the head unit and I have 2 tower speakers running through a 4 channel 1000w amp (I am planning to bridge the other 2 channel and run a sub). However I have a non marine head unit at the moment and its only a matter of times until it dies. Can anyone recommed a good marine head unit with an ipod jack for around the £150 - £200 mark??

Cheers
Dave

PS I have a 205 Prostar any ideas on where to mount a 10 or 12" sub??

What's a setero Dave?

After listening to some of your Folk music I'll be glad when your head unit Dies!

If it's a decent car audio HU don't count on it dying any time soon... We find they last just as long as their Marine counterparts.

As for marine head units there's only 2 on the market I'd rate. they are the Clarion XMD3 and the Clarion CMD4 - The CMD4 can play MP3's and hosts a few other trick bits... the XMD3 works for most though and will take a direct Ipod input

we used to have a sony marine head unit which used to jump and skip when you go over the rollers, now have a Clarion XMD3 which doesnt seem to do that and is excellent.

I've always used standard car audio stuff in a salty marine enviroment and found it to be ok. I found disc changers didn't like the sweaty enviroment of my closed bow MC but head units where ok.

My advice would be to get a son unit as you can add the steering wheel or transom remotes and not have to worry about accessing the stereo itself.
