SBDA qualificaiton

hi all,
looking at doing my SBDA over the summer but just wondering whether anyone can explain to me what exactly they teach you/is required, roughly how much it costs, and finally where abouts on the south coast i can do it, preferably bournemouth/poole

i know Quayside do it but they're quite expensive so would rather not use them

SBDA will teach you safe control of the boat, how to drive for skiers, basic boat safety and if you choose the coastal waters test it will also teach some basic navigation skills.

It should include a practical test involving towing a skier, returning to them after a fall and docking the boat.
The written test is multiple choice and should take no more than 30 mins. Pretty much everything you'll need to know for the test is covered in the booklet given to you before you take the test so read it well.

As for costs it depends on where you take it. We do it through our club for our own members and just charge the basic administration fee (think it was £11 last year). Commercial test centres will usually charge around £160+

thanks for the explanation. i have my advanced powerboat and done a bit of towing in the past anyway, but helps my insurance big time if i have my SBDA so gonna get on to somewhere nearby and get it organised

mcsqueeb - thanks for that. not chooisng to do my SBDA with CW as the guy who took me out for a tow the other day has really put me off them. it wasnt the ussual person and when pulling me off the dock he managed to do it in such a way that i ended up jarring my back quite badly, meaning i'm off the water for 3 weeks

thinking i'll just use quayside as they seem to be the best people for the job and arent as expensive as i expected
