No insurance company has ever asked if my boat is CE certified.

And nobody buying a boat from me has every asked either.

Typical euro nanny crap we should ignore on principle.

Insurance companies rarely question anything you tell them when they are taking your premium, but when you’re making a claim they want your birth certificate, your mother blood group and you’re inside leg measurement.
That’s when they find your boats not CE approved and you find yourself uninsured, likewise when you’re involved in a road accident and they find you’re running an illegal trailer.

You know I hold the law in the lowest possible esteem in most situations. But you also know that a non CE approved boat has zero chance of getting launched or a mooring in our marina and ours can’t be the only one.

Default Ce Marking And Suchlike Crap

Just back from hols.
Yes, the boat looks like it requires CE marking, yes its a load of rubbish.
A guy comes round to your place, does a survey lasting 3 hours , then you have to launch the boat and fill it with max capacity of persons or weight to do a hull check.
Boat doesnt even have to be run.
Costs £1750 + VAT
Yes, i knew it needed done and am not 100% sure i will do it immediately.
There are very little differences.
Its a load of cash for nothing.
I used Autoshippers UK out of Bristol Avonmouth office.
Boat is being shipped on the 12TH August, takes 19days to arrive at Southampton.
As for the trailer, it is dual axle and disc brakes, what that will mean in changes i dont know, but i am not going to worry about it at the moment.
I just need to find an american towbar to fit to my jeep now!
Anyone want anymore info on importing, i am going through it all now.
(insurance companies not requesting a ce marked boat for coverage either)
Cheers
Dave

I phoned my insurer (GJW Worcester/RA Carter Homepage - GJW Direct) on Thursday and specifically asked them if CE Certification was in any way relevant to my insurance and they said no, it isn't required by the policy.

Could just be that the person I spoke to got it wrong but it may be worth checking with them.
