There may be 4 reasons why a American trailor is illegal in this country.
1 Too wide UK regs say 2.3 m or 2.55m if vechicle over 3500kg
2 2" hitch we use 50mm very little difference had no problem with 50mm ball
3 Hydraulic brakes was told about this but can't confirm
4 Lights use a trailor board, but you may want to check with Lucas i was told they may have the correct size and colour lens to replace the ones fitted to the trailor.other things to think about. There are 2 chains or cables which need to be attached to the towbar cross them over under the hitchhead also attach the fine cable which will snatch the brakes on if the trailor comes off the ball.Is it worth it YES
Remember most police will not be aware of trailor law.
Your brakes will work after being in water
Launch/ recover will be easy
It should tow well at high speed 70/80 were conditions allow!

PS if you do not use the US electrics make sure you have the shoe which stops the hitchhead being pushed back when reversing
