Default parts for US spec trailers

Does anybody know of any UK seller.distributor that can supply either a new set of backing plates for 12" drum brakes or alternatively and preferably a disk brake conversion kit? Looks like I'm going to have to import from the US and so will get stung on freight due to the weight.

If your a bit crafty you should be able to measure the drums and replace the entire backing plates with something that will fit.

I assume your also replacing the hydraulic lines and going with cables?

I'm staying with hydraulics as they are way better than cable. The plan is to swap out the drum system and go for disks. To the letter of the law, not legal, but does give optimum braking...

Discs would be pretty easy to fit. Jags use the same PCD as US trailers so get a pair of jag discs and calipers and weld a couple of lugs on the the axle to hold the calipers. Plumb in the same as before and job done.

I've fitted discs in place of drums on cars and its straightforward enough. You can get kits in the US to change to discs but but I would have thought th shipping costs would be uneconomic.

yeah, I was thinking about the Jag option given the same PCD on the wheels.
Prices from the US look to be around £250 for the disc kit for 2 axles and then the same again to have them shipped to the UK.

The only problem I see with the Jag option is that I would probably need the jag stub axle also - my guess this would make it more expensive than the US option.

If I were to change to cable drums ie make it UK legal, it would probably cost £800, in other words costs more, is legal, but doesn't stop as quickly!
