Default Bigger Alternator?

Is there anything wrong with having a bigger alternator?
I've installed a dual battery system and I'm looking at a compatible 78Amp alternator (I assume the original one my 5.0L Mercruiser churned out 55amps).

Is there any downside to a bigger alternator, for example would you need to idle at higher revs to get a proper charge?

thanks,

Wakebert

Well worth upgrading your alternator for a bigger one. I have the 78A one and it does the job of powering my many accessories and charging the batteries.
No need to worry about idle speeds etc just ensure you fit a marine alternator.

having a large alternator is no bad thing all that will happen if you go back to singal battery, is the battery will charge faster. Auto chemical batteries ie car/van/boat cannot be over charged so you will be ok.

Caios - £25 gets you an auto switching one (hands free) plus a little cable (£5-6) and a marine battery or gel cell.
