Cheers Mike, we are looking at a couple of 196's, if we get one, u can come out for a ride, foc, for giving all of the advice....

Unless you have some really sheltered water a 196 used in coastal waters is going to be pretty wet. Lack of freeboard and a short bow will mean there's going to be plenty of spary over the front even in moderate seas.

With your budget you should be able to get a mid to late 90's V drive but it might take some shopping around to locate one.

Thats exactly what I said originally. but james is on the Conwy Estuary so v sheltered... its generally pretty glass.

Yeh, we are on the Conwy which is generally flat, with a slight bit of chop here and there (although we have bounced our way back in a SW through a 2ft swell), we are in a low freeboard boat at present, and a 196 has got to be an improvement. Although if anyone knows of a late nineties V drive we will e V interested. All we can find at present are stern drives, and the 205.
