Jeremy knows of a top local Mechanic is Portishead.... I'd PM him for details. He knows all about Ski Boats and when I chatted to him seemed to be somewhat of an Oracle. I'd PM him for details if i were you...

Have you got an electric or vaccuum lock off? The fault sounds like a perished vacuum hose or diaphram in a VFF30.

TB - Tried to Pm J but he has too many unread messages!

Cowboy - Not sure. The conversion was on the boat when we brought it. What i don't understand is that if it was a fuel issue, surly it wouldn't fire up or would splutter? The boat fires up fine but then is immediately shut down.

Is there not some type of management system (if it has one) on the engine that could be reading a fault and not letting the engine run for safety reasons?

Also I have had a bad earth fault in the past, not sure if its related and my TAPS interferes with the PP when you press the TAPS button!

Can i buy a diagnostic tool for this engine or are they silly money?

There won't be any management system left in place to probe as most dealers will junk all the EFI gubbins when fitting LPG. Tige use mercruiser engines which will go into limp mode should they sense a fault but your not in limp mode here.

Send me a pic of the engine and I'll tell you if you have a vacuum lock off. The VFF30 is the most common one used on LPG only engines and if the vacuum hose or diaphram is dodgy it wont create enough signal to keep the lock off open hence it starts and then stalls. If it has been playing up for a while and has now got worse that is what I'd check first.

As Ross says it also sounds like the lanyard or possibly the ignition switch but both of these are easy to trouble shoot.

Ok you have an electric lock off. Now as you have the electric one you should have some kind of safety device which shuts off gas flow when the engine shuts down. Trouble shooting this will be pretty much the same as doing your deadmans lanyard. You'll need a multimeter and a length of wire to bypass the terminals.

Follow the red and black wires from the lock off (this is the device that it just before the vaporiser, it has a gas pipe to your tank, pipe nipple to the vaporiser and a pair of wires coming from it).

These wires should go to an earth point somewhere and a +12V switched source from either a safety relay which picks up coil pulses or an oil pressure switch.

Remove the red wire from what ever device its connected to and use a length of wire to connect it to the postive side of the battery. This will keep it open all the time. Try to start it and see you you get on.
