there are so many positives to cables.

Low noise.
Low pollution
Cheap to use, not elitist at all. Price of sheffield is £28 all day. I'm not sure you can find much that you can do all day, that is that much fun, for that price.

The planners should go visit sheffield on a 10ft high comp day. Just to see the amount of kids all enjoying themselves, socialising with their peirs all having a good time. When the results were annouced later, there must have been a group of 30-40 teenagers/kids all just sat together all friends all waiting patiently for the results to be annouced.

This country needs more cables, not blocking at the planning stages.

Germany has nearly 60 cables. The UK could support so many more!!!

(edit) .... actually 30 for all day now, it was 28 last season, but still cheap.!

I cannot see the rationale for this decision- there is already a cable in the area that does NOT attract rowdy crowds, noise or pollution, so why would another cause these apparent problems? Look at the success of Princes, more than one cable, no youth problems I've ever seen. Quite the opposite in fact, all you see there are energised aspirational youngsters eager to particiapte. Perhaps the Councillors should visit other, larger facilities before making up their minds? Princes would not have been there for what, 50+ years, if all it gave was problems. It doesn't, nor will this.

Many of the regulars at WMSki are locals which proves it DOES give "youth" things to do and clearly does not encourage this anti-social behaviour.

This will bring employment to the area- more staff will be needed, and they're skilled jobs with essential, transferable skills, how many other (some, not all of the staff but Tom etc are) 16- 22 year olds who become mechanics and safety experts, including needing to know about first aid, develop communication skills, etc, etc? They're not engaged in anti-social activities, they're working, and everyone who works at WMSki is professional, courteous, and enjoys their job.

It will also attract more people like me to the area, possibly permanently, travelling from Bristol for my regular riding causes unnecessary pollution and other than the cable (& boat) I spend most of my hard earned in my local area, not this one. I'm 30, and in a profession of only 1500 (Patent Attorney's) in the country. Do a simple survey of 1000 30 year old professional people who given the choice would rather live in South Cerney than Bristol? As a single, direct result of an improvement of these facilities, I would rather be there. The Council can either ENcourage positive inflows of people whom I dare say it would like to have living there, or not.

If the planners had looked at the demographic of those who are regular riders (Will, sure all season ticket holders would consent to a simple passing of dates of birth to them) then they'd see the type of people this attracts are reasonably similar to myself- it is a cheap hobby in comparison to many others, it's only expensive if you buy all the kit, which you don't have to do. These are the sorts of people the current cable attracts. Why would another be different?

This Saturday morning myself and 20 other young professionals (typically 20- 35 years old), have a private hire session for 2 hours (a corporate event), bringing money in the area from all over the country, introducing those who've not done it before to a fantastic sport. Many come time after time, from very far away. Double the facilities, double the potential, for similar events, not for "late night nonsense".

Joining the FB book group now (yes I know a 30 y.o. shouldn't be on there!)

and will see you Sat Will, keep it sunny will you?!?

Tim

Just found this on a bit of a google hunt, from thisisgloucestershire.co.uk

[qutoe]Resident Edward Jenkins said: “The mix of adrenaline and teenage sports are not quiet.
“The cable scheme poses a real threat to the lake.
“There are 267 country parks in England and not one has proposed or installed a cable scheme.” [quote]

I believe Sheffield cable would be in Rothervalley Country Park???? forgive me if i'm wrong!!!!

The article gets better......

[quote]Fellow ward member Peter Clarke (LD. Water Park) said: “I've had more objections to this proposal than any other issue in and around the area, including complaints about waste.
“I'm no killjoy and people need to be able to enjoy things like water-skiing but not on this site.
“There may be little noise from the machinery but there will be noise, particularly from youngsters.”
[quote]

Where else could you water ski? this park has alot of lakes i believe? lakes are required for water skiing. Oh yeah thats right.... the other best site for water skiing in the country.....10MPH speed limit. just some NIMBY's with no ideas or vision.

read the article in the local paper about the application being blocked. utter rubbish in terms of impact on the area and their own 'childish' and nimby concerns about noise.

interestingly the local parish council website has a link to all the housing developers websites- so i take it that sort of developement is all right then? The whole thing smacks of double standards.

Whilst cable sites are popping up over the world the Uk stagnates (the growth of sites not of talent). Fuel for boats gets more and more expensive so surely the logical growth market would be with development of cable sites? I'm amazed at how well the UK riders do with such a small 'scene'..

Other countries seem to place a bit of importance on cables..

CableWakeboard.com - Cable Opens in Bursa, Turkey

Just wish there was a cable closer than a 120 mile round trip...

Its bull****, the one Cable in the UK that was going to be regular footed as well.

How does it create noise again??
I have been riding cable for 2 years at both London clubs and have never seen anyone being rowdy...maybe I have just been there at the wrong times...
