[I believe Sheffield cable would be in Rothervalley Country Park???? forgive me if i'm wrong!!!!

Wake MK is also in a public park albeit with leased businesses running on it. The Last time i was at WM Ski i didn't see 100s of the general public walking by all day like you do at MK. So surely WakeMK should have even more complaints from the public about rowdy behaviour however it doesn't!

As usual councils need to do a bit more visiting sites instead of relying on their own predetermined views on certain sports.

Cable Wakeboard is awesome.
It is affordable, and amazing excercise.
We all go to the cable every weekend and dont drink Friday nights now, just so we can get up there early and feel good for a days shredding!

How can they stop the only UK left foot forward cable from going ahead? Its just madness!
It will draw in more money to that area as they will have LOADS of riders from all over the country wanting to check it out!

It's a shame that you'll probably not have the opportunity to take the people that make this decision up to Sheffield Cable Ski. If you did, they'd see something that operates in harmony with its country park surroundings and that has a great atmosphere for all the family.

On a personal note I learnt to water ski and wakeboard on a cable (I probably would never have tried it otherwise) and I now spend a lot of my free time volunteering for a charity that takes disabled people waterskiing and wakeboarding. If the planners spent a weekend with us they'd see that it's all worthwhile!

Default Planning for clockwise cable WM SKi

Hey Will. Howz things? Jeremy with the SUPRA from CWSC. The news that U R having to go through hurdles on this, really is a disgrace. I'm 42, father of 2 boys boys 11 and 13, who all love the sport, and come to the current WM ski site regularly. The WM cable for us, is place where likeminded/outdoors loving families can come together and have a great time! The sport is energetic and expressive whilst remaining (at the WM site anyway) calmly under your control.

It's not surprising really as it's all in our best interests to ensure that everyone behaves and doesn't spoil it for the rest. The proof of that is your excellent track record at the site! All the visitors to you site know how rare such a resource is and I'm sure feel the same.

What I find ironic is that when everyone is trying to get more active, be more healthy, and when the demands on safe recreational sites for children/young adults/adults and families alike are so sparse, I cannot see how the objections of a few, should destroy it for the rest?

Can I suggest that the planners seek a meeting where the vocal minority can aire their views, as I would very much like the opportunity to help put the case of the silent majority who just want to continue to do what we've been doing over the years: Quietly getting on, with bringing up our children on a cocktail of life / the outdoors and watersports!

I would really take issue with all points regarding the refusal of the planning application of the c/w cable at WM Ski. First of all cable wakeboarding is certainly not an “elitist” sport, maybe boat wakeboarding / waterskiing may be classes as but no more so than, horse riding, for example and no one seems to refuse a planning application for that.
Secondly regarding noise etc, the cable running rig is almost silent, a little music from the speakers on the dock and sounds of encouragement as someone tries and lands (or fails) a new trick or invert is hardly intrusive. An example of this is Box End Park has a reasonably upmarket restaurant situated on the bank cable lake and the encouragement and subsequent carnage on the adjacent fun box often is the talking point to diners and drinkers who had never even heard of wakeboarding, indeed some often return the following week with their kids or grandkids to give it a go.
Sheffield cable in Rother Valley often has more non-riders than riders on the seating areas by the dock drinking coffee, enjoying a snack or even a pint in the good weather days and everyone enjoys it, it always creates a talking point and again, creates more interest and ultimately more “i wanna give it a go” The same point can be said about WakeMK at Willen lake. And probably every other cable in the country (would comment on the rest but only been to WM Ski once; Thorpe once and never been to the rest)
Regards the positive impact on my life, I only discovered the joys of the cable tow as a chance google search 2 years ago found Sheffield Cable, getting towards 30 i was finding myself a little stuck in the rut, spending half the weekends in the pub and generally not doing much with my life. Now I ride every week at either Sheffield and Box End cables along with boat work less often – prob only a set a month or so. This is great exercise, I have lost loads of weight and due to the social environment, I have met some of the best people in the world through the sport. I just wish I had discovered it 15 years ago.

Sorry if this is a little long but some things need to be said. With the right arguments and education we must be able to overturn the council’s decision.

Good luck guys
Paul
