carve, well I guess I was asking what physical changes to the 'sport' of wakeboarding do we actually need... in a sport such as 100m running a new running track, training facilities and top coaches would help as the general target for runners is to run the fastest they can and win races.

In wakeboarding it's a bit different as everyone rides for a different reason... for fun, for adrenaline, to win comps, to impress others, as a job etc If we define progression as moving forward then there's a lot of things we could do... I was wondering what you personally saw as most important... ?

e.g. non-official comps, more water, bigger wakes, nicer shorts?

Jeremy

The list of reasons for riding are all brought together under the heading of fun would you agree? Even people doing it to show off or to win comps still have fun in what they do, no?

In terms of a psyical progression in the sport, i don't think more lakes will make a great deal of change. Look at snowboarding, if you live in the UK, you're looking at time off work to go to the mountains to do your sport - and how many snowboarders are there in the UK compared to Wakeboarders?
As you said, different people ride for different reasons - so areas of progression will be different for different people. Some people may well ride because they like to look good in board shorts, so will see progression in a flashy new pair of shorts

In my opinion, the most important aspect of 'progression' is getting it seen. Whether this is through first hand, mags, websites or whatever - its getting it seen. I would like to think that our site helps in that aspect of this point! As for psysical things, new shorts, boats, boards, lakes will all aid to it all im sure - but if nobody see the new things. . . .

My previous point in my post however, was that if someone is helping getting it seen - the last thing they need is to have people try to pick holes in it or point out mistakes. If everyone has their own idea of how the sport should go forward then they can't be the only person thinking this and should be listened to.

As Wakechat owner, you see all the talk that goes through here - how do you see things in the future?

It'd be great to talk about this in more deapth and maybe talk further on a few other ideas - am i able to contact you directly or can i just give you Wakestuff@mac.com

Thanks

JP

Amongst many other things, we need more cables!!! Birmingham, Manchester, Blackpool, Newcastle, Glasgow, Cardiff and Belfast. At least.

(And nicer shorts Jeremy.)

I'm going to try persuding my local authorities (Birmingham and Telford) that a cable would be a great facility with big benefits for the area. If anyone knows anything about cables - please pitch in. I've read the public stuff - Cableology, Rixen and Sisetec etc. - but beyond that I don't really have a clue.

Btw, I reckon that cables are better/funkier/more fun when run privately rather than local authority owned, but the investment seems so huge - and the water so difficult to get - I can't wrap my head around doing one privately. Although wouldn't it be great?

Buy an old warehouse, flood it, and have it indoor! :P Winter riding made warmer, summer boarding withough all the wind/rain

Still cost a bomb though, and take a long time to recoup any of the HUGE investment cost... But on the plus side, you could run winter comps, and have a huge hook in the long off season we have here. could even branch out and have one of those surfin wave things, and those funky skate-e-magigs based on the surf things!
