i think that all the uk mags are a bit 'tired'
sorry to say it but alliance is definately not true to its US roots - they would never have published product guides - it was supposed to be more about the lifestyle and scene and wakeboard mag is just one bid advetorial and i think PUW is right when they say it juss seems to be the same old thing each issue i still get them both as theres nothing else about and i guess its my way of supporting wakeboardingin some small way |

i just typed stuff and deleted by mistake and i really can't be bothered to type it again so in short....
Dave d what are you talking about? the gear guide in alliance is lifted straight from the US mag. PUW how can you start off by saying that they didn't mention some guy called Jonathen and then later say that Wakeboard is not a mag that you want to be involved with, mmmm. if you want a mag thats about your mates then make your own. for the record i hate gear guides i think they are a waste of my reading time. i like to read about trips and crazy sh*t and real interviews were you can say what you want and not have to worry about what the mags sponsors are going to say like in Sidewalk or Surfers path. interviews are stupid when you never even met the person and you just email them some predicable questions-thats not an interview its a census. i also am not too big a fan of Wakeboard mag here or in the US although since steve took over in the UK it has been better but they both have too many ads and too much how to sticker your board or launch your boat. i was disappointed that the gear guide issue of alliance didn't have any "framed" section, i thought that was lame but in general i think Alliance here and the US get it right more than they get it wrong. just for the record a lot of people in the UK have spent a lot of time and effort over the years promoting and supporting wakeboarding and i thin k as in any sport you have to earn respect before people take you seriously and unfortunately PUW and his pal Jonathen will have to do some spade work and stop trying to tell everone that they deserve to be recognised for their efforts. Wakestuff website is offering subscriptions to Wakeboarding mag in the states which is already available direct from World Pub, personally i think it should be banned from our shores for being crap but whatever i certainly wouldn't call it a service to UK wakeboarding.

Involvement within one area doesn't mean to say that you should be involved in all.
I didn't realise that we needed a certain quanity of respect within Wakeboarding Mr Northern Monkey sir. Maybe your PALS at Wakeboarding mag need to show respect in the publishing world then.Wakestuff is offering a choice, and on this occasion, you clearly do not like its content. One thing you have failed to notice is that Wakestuff will publish press releases, advertise and promote wake related information free or charge. Wakeboarding mag does neither. There is one thing they are very good at, and thats being narcissistic. Dont you just love it when someone bites! Last edited by PUW; 6th April 2007 at 05:45 PM. |

Well if Alliance in the Us are running a gear guide then I guess the UK version would too
but wot i was talking about was that in the early editions of the us mag they always prided themselves in being a lifestyle/scene mag and running gear guides was a definate no no - and somethong they proded themselves in i guess times change and everone starts to follow a common and no doubt sucessful for them fromula otherwise why do it |

On a slightly different tack I'm always amazed that anyone even tries to get a wake mag off the ground in the UK. The market size is such that I wouldn't have thought it could ever be profitable.. still I appreciate it when people do bother and look forward to the Alliance mag dropping through my letterbox whenever it does.

wow, there's some passion going down here!
i haven't seen the new issue of wakeboard mag yet, but on the whole its a good mag that is more geared towards a wider market than Alliance. Jeremy is right about not making any profit, but thats not why either publication exists. They are there to provide information and entertainment on wakeboarding, and i can tell you Alliance is definatly putting alot into our sports this year. DaveD, i hate gear guides too but unfortunatly a lot of people want the info and so we try to present it in the least geeky way possible. I hope the rest of the seasons issues will make up for it. As far as content in mag's goes, you have to bare in mind that although we have a great, tight scene in the UK, there aren't a lot of really good riders so it's hard to mix it up all the time. At this time of year its hard to fill pages as not many people are riding, so the 'name' riders will be used for editorials as they are more likely to deliver the goods. I'm really excited about the new generation of groms that are set to blossom this year, there's a lot of talent there and really good attitudes. Winter's over now so things will get better. |
