Default From Prostar 190 to X7

quick question. Could we fit in the 1200lb launch pad sofa somewhere in the back of the X7? An X7 comes standard with a 530lb ballast bag in the back under the seat, but i am used to the 1200lb launch pad in the back of the prostar giving me some crazy wakes to practice my backrolls. Obviously we wont be filling the 1200lb ballast full if the standard ballast bag is full, but i just want to know if this could be possible before i start panicking.

The prostar has now been sold and the X7 on its way, but reading reviews on the X7 wakes that say: 'Great for beginners' is worrying me rather alot because i need BIG air!

Liz,

The X7 is basically a Prostar 190 Evo with some add ons (including the ballast tank and tower) making it a great crossover boat for skiers and boarders. With the engine in the middle as opposed to the back it's never going to kick out as much wake as a purpose built wakeboard boat like an X2.

The ballast system is basically a bag that fills up (rather than a rigid tank.) In order to fill it you have to lift the back seat up (on to some purpose built rails.) If you're not happy with the amount of ballast it comes with you could try lifting the seat out altogether and putting your fat sofa in its place. It would probably have to put it on top of your (empty) ballast bag but you'd need to take care not to damage anything. The thing that may stop you doing this is the width of the sofa but you can give it a go.

The X7 is a great boat however. I'd be interested to know how you get on with it when you've got it.

We've just bought the Prostar in the attached photo for the Yorkshire & Central region of the BDWSA, so we'll see you at Treeton at some point showing off our new boats!

Thanks for the advice, i havnt yet voiced these concerns to my brother who has bought the boat, but i am sure we will improvise with it! The other problem we have is that the boat is so heavy at the back, you have a god awful wake at slower speeds... but hey i can cope with fast!

We know we will both miss the Prostar very much too, and we'll be at Treeton so much this year due to major new boat novelty effect!

Hope you get on with you're new boat too and hopefully see you at Treeton! - were you there on the last BDWSA event? I will have probably seen you last year as i was there that day late in the season.

Yes, I was there.

You might remember that we had a chat about your new Fat Sofa. It was the first time you'd used it and you were getting LOADS of air!

See you soon,

Alisdair

Oh yes i recall now! I was scared of it that first day haha! I got used to the big air though and it spurred me on to try backrolling away - not landed any yet though, but had a black eye and some torn tendons! Still i am determined to land those back rolls this year!

Closest i came was off the kicker at sheff cable - but it kinda feels like cheating because the kicker does everything for you!

Next question.

Any idea's how to make the best ballast system in an X7? Can we put fat saks in other places?
