Default Poorly Maristar 230

Have some engine probs on my Maristar 230 from the launch last weekend.

After de-winterisation and service boat was dropped in the marina ready for the new season. On doing a short pootle around the marina we are showing problems with stalling and power.

Symptoms are:
1) Idle for first few mins warming up fine
2) Idle when in gear fluctuates 800-1000-800
3) Pickup not smooth, splutters then stalls
4) Temp after stall looks a bit high

This happened to me in the marina and I decided not to try and limp home so got a tow from our friendly marina lock master - embarrasing but I didn't want to overheat/damage anything.

From looking online at TM forums the following sound poss: Dodgy fuel filters, fuel pump, Idle Control Valve, Throttle position sensor, fuel, HT circuit.

As I'm not able to diagnose and sort it myself I'm getting the marine mechanic who did the winterisation and service to try first. Either something expired over the winter and we didn't notice at the service or we have introduced a problem since it was last on the water in November.

I've been happy with my local chap over the last couple of years so hopefully I won't need to get in an MC mechanic... if I do can anyone recommend someone who could make it to Bristol to do a diagnosis?

Bugger

Fuel Filter or water in fuel would be my bet, most chandelerys sell fuel additive to get rid of water in fuel.

If you need a ride at the weekend give me a shout as we will be riding from sat afternoon to monday at minster.

Cheers
Rossl

I used this stuff and some carb cleaner on a boat with a ford 351 w V8 and a holley carb which would not hold idle last weekend:

Fuel Set Fuel Set Concentrated Fuel Conditioner - Only £17.95 - Force 4 Chandlery

It worked a treat. Saved there day. I have it in the back of the truck, if you want i can pop up to portisehead marina after work tonight, if you want to give it a go.

Regards
Ross

Could be any one or more of the faults you listed but as its just after a lay up period dodgy fuel is most likely.

Adding a cap full of acetone to the fuel cured our water in the fuel problems with the MC missing after it sank.

I'd also try and get rid of all variables before spending any big cash. new filters, check impeller, check thermostat, remove the heater plumbing (unlikely but best to try everything), new fuel, check spark etc etc. if alls fine, put everything back together and call in the Pro's!

Cool, cheers chaps. Yeah, with such a large tank I can imagine some condensation went on over the winter. I'm away this weekend so will see if the mechanic can double check everything then have a go with the fuel-moisture stuff next week.
