Default Rope Length

Yesterday I went from a really long rope, and then later on in the day took a section of the rope off which made the rope signifiantly shorter. I think i was using a water ski length.. anyway once i changed to the shorter rope I was able to get so much more air/distance, and had and it took a lot less effort to cut into the wake.

What size rope do you use for Wakeboarding?

Any hope is usefull, the important its the long of the rope.
People who is starting use 55 feet rope and a pro use a 70 feet rope!!!

the reason why you got more air when you shortened the rope is because you probably got to a point to where the wake was optmum. the closer you are to the boat the easier it is to get wake to wake and stuff. and like celo said the shortest should be 55 feet but the longest i know of people riding comfotably at was 100 foot rope

Frye is spot on. It also depend what boat you use and how its weighted, I go 75-85, on smaller boats 65-70 (but I don't like going that short, makes me feel all weird) With a longer line hangtime is great, going w2w at 65 and 85 you'll see the differance. With a shorter line its easier to go into the flats, and if you feel comfortable there, stay there.
Alot of the pro's ride 80ft plus. Shwenne rides at 95ft (the westcoast guys seem to ride longer) and Harris is at 97ft and 27-28mph.
I rode the X-star once at 85 and 25mph, it was a dream like flying. but stick to where-ever you feel comfortable.

I think I'm going to try it again today at 70ft @ 25mph to see how it feels. 70 ft at 20mph feels too slow.

I guess the only way to find out what is best is to just try everything and see what feels the best.

Maybe not 25mph but 70 at 23.5 is nice. But you are right, you don't know unless you try.
In general 20mph is pretty slow, most people go 22-23ish
