Default Which Board?

Hi everybody!

I'm writing from Düsseldorf in Germany. In May I started to waterski some times. But since 1 week I started wakeboarding. And ... it makes me really addicted! I just went yesterday and today wakeboarding (not behind a boat but at those cableways (or how do you call it?) at a lake). So tomorrow I'll go again wakeboarding. Now I want to buy a Wakeboard; because its better than renting it always.
I just read through this page and it is pretty good!

So, please give me a hint which board to buy?

Size: I'm 179cm tall (that is 5'10'') and weigh 72 kg (that is 159 lbs). As I read this chat, a 137cm-board can't be so wrong?!

Brand: I read in this chate the brands Hyperlite, O'brien, CWB and Liquidforce. Well, in Germany I saw Hyperlite, CWB, Liquidforce and Jobe.
As I read this chat, you tell us that all brands are ok. What about Jobe? Is it a good brand and board to buy?

I would be happy to have your answer today, because tomorrow I wanna buy a board! :-)

Thanks in advance!

hey ator,,
welcome to wakechat,,for your size and weight a 137cm would be fine or if you wanted ,,you could go up to the 143cm,,as for name brand,,i beleive all the major name brands are of good quality,,i always say any pro can do any trick on any board ,,and any beginner can learn on any board,, i think shaun murry and dan nott could pull of a tantrum on any board you give them,,so you just find you a board that is in the price range of what you want to spend,,

Hi friends!

v drive, thank you for explaing your experiences with Hyperlite. Must be a good brand name.

waykboard, I have a shop near here. They sell Jobe wakeboards. So, I don't know if Jobe is a "major name brand". Please tell me!
You confirmed that a 137cm-board would be good for my size and weight (179 cm=5'10"/ 72 kg=159lbs). But what do you mean with "if you wanted, you could go up to 143cm"? Is a 137cm-board or 140cm, or a 143cm-board better for me?
Sorry for asking all those questions! :-)

Thanks in advance!

Greetings from Germany,
Christian

ator,,
i dont have a problem with jobe boards,,i have a hyperlite and a obrien,,but if a jobe came along at a good price i would ride it,,to save you some money,,you should see if the shop owner has any used or last year modle boards that he would sell cheaper than a new board at your weight you would be good with a 137cm board or bigger,,but you would not be happy riding a 132cm board,, the 132cm or shorter just would not hold your weight for a good ride,,and shorter boards from my experience are a little more squirley (harder to keep steady) than the longer boards,,and some people even say the longer boards can give more pop,,137cm-143cm or anything in between would be good for your weight,,i would suggest finding you a board some where between 137cm and 143cm that has the most amount of rocker and is the widest board in the middle,,the most rocker and widest board will be a smooth steady tracking board with a good amount of pop,,

All board brand choice is just down to which company you like the most...
Hyperlite and Liquid Force are the Biggest with the most capital for sponsorship and advertising but all boards are made the same way (and in a lot of cases in the same factory!) Which board in a brands range you buy is a different matter, they all ride differently... find one you get on with, ask if you can test some.

One piece of advice I can give you is don't feel you have to buy the most expensive one, buy one that is designed for beginners if you are a beginner, buying one that locks in and edges at million miles an hour won't help you nail your surface 180s etc...

I'm riding a Liquid Force 'Evo' this year after having a 'Trip' last year, its a lot more fun to ride as its more forgiving... suits me!
