Default Board size.....advantages and disadvantages

Sorry if I post questions that have been asked before...
I am looking at Hyperlites Byerly '03 Biolite board, either 137 or 142.

Right now I am at 170 lbs, I am pretty much done growing but will gain a little more weight...probably up to 185 lbs. From hyperlite's recommendations, I am stuck between the 137 and 142 range. I know that this is a good board and will last me a long time, so I didn't want to get something that will not last.

I have been boarding for a couple years...not real heavy, but I want to get into it since my friends are doing it too.

What size board would be best for a beginner/intermediate like myself?

I don't want to make this a 'me' subject, so...what are the advantages/disadvantages of a smaller board vs. the advantages/disadvantages of a larger board?

I would appreciate any help and/or opinions.

Thanks

Default

Small board - easier to spin, rides faster boat speeds, easier to control in the air, rides lower in the water and feels slower during the cut

Big board - easier to get big air, assists in large air manuvers due to inertia (trip flips, raleys, etc.), easier to ride with longer line lengths due to increased size, acellerates faster and feels faster.

I ride a bit smaller for my weight. I like the reduced weight since my XL bindings weigh so much. I do have a size larger for those times that I want to practice with more air. If you can, get a few boards of different sizes and designs that you can experiment with. Close outs and e-bay is a great way to build up an anti-gravity arsenal.
