Default Newbie Board Hints.

Long time & regular slalom skier (every week). Tried wakeboarding with a friends boat (400 HP Jet powered fishing boat) for the first time this last weekend. Had a blast - no problem getting up - just staying up - kept catching and edge. I am about 6' 3" 205 lbs. Wakeboard was a HO Soul 5 140.

Now that I am home - I am looking for a good starter board to play with that I won't outgrow too fast. My ride at home is an 18 ft. four winns open bow - nothing spectacular - but definately a smoother wake than the jet (and easier to control speed). Any reccomendations for a good board setup?

I would reccomend one of the Hyperlite Motives. I would get the 144, with the split bindings, you will be able to have a lot of other people use the board too. The Motives are good boards to learn on, they are very stable, and can be decent boards for advanced riders too. If no one else will be using the board, you might want to get the Era bindings, a little more supportive, with a more comfortable footbed, although they will be harder to get in and out of.

The Soul 5 is a decent board to learn on. I use it 6'0" and 215. It is cheaper than the hyperlites and the orbit bindings are the exact same as the hyperlite spins.
