What defines the lenght of the tow-rope ? The style of riding ? The person riding ? The boat ?
What difficulties is there to have a too short or too long rope ? What would be the right lenght ? Thanks a lot Ville H-H Finland |

bmfin,,
your boats wake will determine your rope lenght,,get your boat set up the way you nomaly ride as far as added weight(if any) trim of the motor(if applies) then get your boat up to your desired riding speed,,i would suggest 20-22 mph,,now look at the boats wake,,and find the highest part of the wake with the least ammount of white wash,,let your rope out to this point,,the longer your rope the better,,but depending on your boats wake you may not get to lets say 75 feet ,,you may only get 50 feet,,depends on where you have the biggest wake with least white wash,,the advantage to longer rope is you have more time and distance out in the flats to set up and approach the wake,,you dont want your rope to be so short that as soon as you crank out the turn,, your at the wake,, there would not be time to get speed or set up on the approach,,

In general terms the rope length is determined by the boat speed and the ability of the rider, the longer the rpoe the faster the speed, so a 75ft rope will probably need about 22mph on a ski/wakeboard boat, 55ft probably around 17-18mph
I would only recommend going to the higher speeds once you have mastered the toe edge and heel edge wake to wake. But as a beginner try letting the rope out at the slower speed and practise popping from the inside of the wake to the out side. Robin |
