Default New boy!!!!

Hi there - i am extremely new to this to the point that i haven't set foot on a wakeboard YET!!! Next friday i have my first lesson/session booked - really looking forward to it.

I spend most of my time snowboarding but have always wanted to try wakeboarding - i liken wakeboarding to snowboarding in many ways - would this be right???

Any helpful tips before i set foot on the water???

Many thanks and i hope to become a regular poster - seems like a good place to collect info and learn about the sport.

Cheers.

Good luck Ralph, you've a good start coming from a snowboarding background. I was also a snowboarder first and have made the transition to the water. Once up and on the water, you'll be in your elliment.

You just have to master the start. Have a search round on this site, there has been a few links to some video footage, to give you a start.

Good luck.

Many thanks for your words of advice - i am really looking forward to getting out on the water!!! Glad to hear my snowboarding stands me in good stead - i imagined it to be similar - is it the same with the goofy/regular stance or is that not an issue in wakeboarding??

With regard to the start i have waterskied before and found that the start was the hardest part - i have watched wakeboarding on Sky and seen various ways of starting - which is the most common (read easiest!!!)???

Thanks

The goofey, regular bit is the same as your snowboarding. As for the start, it's got to be the deep water one first, not saying this is the easy one, but you will be a little stuck out in the lake without leaning this one first. We do have one guy that comes with us that only starts from a sitting dock start, but this is a pain because we have to return to the dock with him ech time he falls. (for some reason we are always booked when he calls).

Does sound like a bit of a cop out - but i can't talk i haven't even set foot in the water yet!!!! Can't wait though - hopefully once i get proficient can visit a few more places.

Out of interest whats the score with wakeboarding if you don't have a boat - is cable riding the only option????

Cheers
