If you've got them both already just try them and take the one you feel most comfortable on.

Don't wory about having the flashiest board around, as a beginner it really won't make a blind bit of difference.

give it a season on the board and then wait to pick up a cheap 04/05 board from the fashion concious.

I'm sure there will be a load of hyperlite states around

both boards are 140cm in length and the o'brien is 39cm wide and the other is 43cm wide, the thinner one is more meneuverable but the bindings a bit tight and ive loosened em to the max, perhaps i'll put the bindings from the other one on the tinner one, are they supposed to be thin or is fatter better?

the boards are a good length for your weight, generally fatter is a personal thing, a wider board in theory can create more pop but may have harder landing, and it also will feel the rougher water more.

but DaveD hit the nail on the head, ride them for the rest of the season, get an idea what you want from a board, then pick up a bargain in the off season
