Removing the fins is not your only option. My 3DS came with 1.1" A Wings so the thing held on an edge bit too much to suit me so I replaced them with some 0.7" and its feels like a different board. There is no right or wrong answer to this, the only real solution is to have a mess about with the fin setup and see what suits you best, but as you advance it may be worth repeating the exercise as a change could help you out even more.

Thumbs up without fins

i always board without fins on!! i find it alot easier to do jumps and go over all obstacles! it is probably easier to do inverts with fins on because of the pop you would get but for me i get alot more free movement to do surface tricks without fins on!!
it really does depend on the style of your riding... at first it will feel like your board is alot more slippery on the water... but after a while you will get used to it!!

Default skatey wakeboard

its probably best to keep your fins on initially... it'll make life easier.

For later, and on kicker/sliders, then consider taking em off, but landing spins the baord can spin out more. For a loose snowboard feel tho its lovely...

When first trying inverts fins will help you cut harder and stop you skidding out on landings.

Try it, see if ya like it.
