Wink

one that can do dock/water starts easily...

one that doesnt catch an edge..

one that suits riders male and female...4ft to 6 ft any weight category

one that doesnt delam on sliders/kickers...

bindings that are comfy.. heaps of support, easy entry..

etc etc

dude.. there are loads of shops out there willing to offer you a good package for some hard earned money.. shop around.. speak to their staff and try before you buy. they may have a vested interest but the vast majority wont see you off- they just wanna see you happy as you walk out the shop with your ninja new setup.

try princes..cahoon..justwatersports..wakeboardisland there are loads...

forums are great but its just peeps going 'i ride this etc etc' which is helpful but its what works for them and thats not necessarily best for you..

in which case i ride...

Gotta agree with Helo on this one. You will get a load of personal opinions rather than expert advice.

However...

My board experience, i first rode on a CWB Flame, bought mainly on the basis of the graphics as i had nothing else to base my decision making on. This board was way too advanced for me, it was a fast board that rode deep in the water and continuously caught edges. Caught edge = faceplant. It had a hard 3 stage rocker that chucked me unpredictably up in the air off the wake. I have to admit although i am sounding negative about the board it was wicked fun and a good board just massively above my skill level at the time. It nearly caused me a serious accident when i rocketed me out of a corner straight into a random lump of concrete which took a slice of my arm and a chunk of my board. I repaired the board but decided it was time for a change.

I bought a liquid force litmus 141, This was the board designed by Kyle Schmidt to be used as the training board at the Liquid Force Wakeboard Camp in Orlando, it has a catch free edge ad a smooth continuous rocker. My riding improved overnight, i was able to begin surface 360s, butterslides and riding switch without constantly catching an edge and eating it. My jumps became consistent and i was able to develop them as i was more aware of the board was doing underneath me.

I know feel that i have outgrown the litmus and am ready for a more agressive board, i have been using my Brother's Liquid Force Team 142 which has a hard three stage rocker, and i now feel more able to understand how this type of board reacts on the wake

I am taking quite a jump by going for the Liquid Force Watson which has what Liquid Force describes as a 'punk rocker' it is about seven cm of rocker and is going to give some hard upwards Pop which is what my boarding currently needs.

In short....

Go for a board in your skill level and you will progress quickly, get one above your skill level and you will find yourself wiping out more than you are riding. As a liquid force fan i would say look for a litmus as it is a great progression board but if you are more into your hyperlite then go for a state.

It is also worth looking out for any demo days coming up and finding the board that suits your specific riding style

whatever board you go for make sure that you get a really decent set of bindings!

If you try to save money on your bindings you will seriously regret it by the end of your first set. For bindings there is no shortcut, go to a shop and try on as many pairs as you can until you are sure about them.

The best beginner board has to be the Hyperlite Motive - that's why they keep making it

And it's also a good intermediate and advanced board also - you will never go wrong with one of them
