Exclamation Rookie needs help getting up....

This past weekend was a blast until I attempted wakeboarding for the first time. I just bought a O'Brein Edge 138cm with OBrien Base Bindings, so needless to say I was ready to get up. Well it didnt go quite as smooth as I wanted to. I found that I was being pulled strait instead of up and out of the water. I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO GET A TOWER to pull me up. I mean lets get real I'm a 21 yr old college kid, thats all that needs to be said. What can I do to get up out of the water with more ease and yet not be sore all get out 3 days afterwards??? Out of around 15 attempts to get out I got up 3 times. Here I am below . . . What can I do different? How do I look (form) need any changes? Thanks.

You definitely don't need a tower to get up. I board behind a tiny speedboat with a 50 hp outboard and no tower.

When I was learning to get up the best advice I had was not to try and get up too early. Let the board pop you up onto the water rather than use brute force to pull you up.

There's a handy little video about getting up on the CWb site here: http://www.cwbwakeboards.com/2007/videos.php

You need to scroll to the bottom of the list to find it.

Hey there,

best advice I ever got was not to try to get up. Don't push with either foot and the board will do the rest - just roll with it.

Default Getting up

Hi,

We spent hours battleing to get out of the water when me and my mates were learning.
Then we stopped and watched a DVD. The next time we went out, it was soooo easy, we couldn't believe it.

All you have to do is bend your knees right up, sit back in the water, and let the boat do all the work. As the boat starts to pull away, dont try to stand, or fight it, just let the pull roll you up and over the board. When you are over the board then, and only then, stand up.

Job done. It is that simple. Once you have done this once, it will be so easy in future.

Hope this helps

Andy
