Question just got a board, have a ?

my fam just got a board, o'brien fluent 141, (came w/ o'brien device bindings) and i was wondering if this is a good board for a complete beginner, cause i dont really want to go and spend $300 on a board, i know it fits size wise but just wondering your opinions on the board, o and another thing is that the fins dont rest up against the bottom of the board, the follow the curve but they dont butt up against it, theres a constant gap...is that normal? i dont want to gash myself open when i fall

That board is fine for beginners. The fin thing seems odd - the fins should be flush with the bottom of the board with no real gap. Are the bolts tightened up properly? You might have the wrong length bolts or even wrong fins. Might be worth checking back with the store.

By the way, the Fluent was originally designed to be ridden without a centre fin, so you could always try it without.
