Using a shaft drive on the coast shouldn't be too much of an issue if you know the area. I've run shaft drives here in essex for years and only once had to spend the night on the boat waiting for the tide to float me off (I wasn't paying attention to the speed the tde was ripping out). That said if I had an I/O I could have trimmed the drive and floated off.

For safety reasons I would only run a shaft drive now, especially as I want to get into wakesurfing.

Not really into i/o boats but this one looks okay and may end up a good deal for a nearly new boat: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Maxum-19-SR3-W...QQcmdZViewItem

Hi, ended up buying the Four Winns we looked at. It's an RX18 so only 18 feet long. Was impressed by the latout and shape of the hull. Have fitted a Big Air Pylon tower to it and have added a fat sac (planning to add some more - just need to measure up). Took her out for the first time this weekend and was really impressed with it. The wake is so much crisper than the old boat and stays clean much further back, so we should be good for a longer tow rope. Going to do some more testing and faffing with fat sacs etc next week.

Nice looking boat. And a good wake.

I don't suppose it is as quick as your old Extreme but a very nice looking boat nonetheless and much better for wakeboarding anyway.

Just means you will have to spend more time on wakechat and less time on boatmad.

I would be very interested to see photos of the wake once you have got your fatsacs in position.
