It's very common.

Windscreen surrounds are simply extruded aluminium, sometimes painted, some anodised. Salt is evil and eats away the finish and then the metal over time. all you can do is wash the boat down thouraghly (look for a product called 'salt away') and keep the screen greased at joints and wd-40'd (or use GT-85 if you can find it.. much better).

If it really bothers you you could unbolt the screen and get it powder coated but be prepared for a couple of hundred quid, plus any repairs the screen may need due to corrosion.

Hope that helps,

Mike

thanks for your help once again mike, all i want to do is stop it from getting worse. the idiot that had my boat before me clearly did not wash it down very well.

So salt away it is..... and then grease it......

Very pleased with the pylon mate, just got the lines to adjust and its ready.....

Ah good stuff - let me know how you get on with it. THe lines can sometimes take a while to get just right... really worth taking your time to get them perfect as you'll reap the rewards in a more solid pull later.

i agree will be taking my time, i have till april so no rush.

The only thing that i may not do unless massive safty reasons is drill holes in the floor for the base, i was thinking of screwing the bace into some plywood and putting a rubber mat underneath, its not ideal but really dont want that bace in the middle of my boat all the time.

i have seen other people on the net have done this.

thanks

I really can't comment on that other to say if you vaue the lives of those around... please don't.

Boats flex, straps could snap etc... iof that thing is let fly to fall anywhere it wants it's going to do some damage.

The holes are pretty unnoticeable if you ever remove the pylon base totally - ruff up the carpet around it and they dissapear!
