Ok i might be shooting myself in the foot here by replying yet again proving that I have too time on my hands (however I am at work and get paid to post on wakechat) but I tend to look out the window to see if its worth going out on the water.

How many techies does it take to change a light bulb?

would be nice if it could flag days which have a tidal shift of less than 7 meters for example... and days which dont have the dreaded south westerly wind... east, north and south winds have never caused me too much bother using the channel... using beachley slip you need about 3.5m water to launch safely...

yeh its seems a bit over the top but ive got some time on my hands too

Cool, thanks for that, here's my initial recipe for indicating optimum conditions for a given location: (e.g. is it worth getting up at 5am to ride the glass!)

Wind: Below a certain value
Wind: Not in a certain direction
Tide: Above a minimum depth
Tide: Either incoming or outgoing tide
Rain: Not sure on this one... maybe light drizzle or less

So at the moment for Bristol we have everthing but the winds (which are 20mph plus )
