LM,

Hope the wedding goes well ;-) I took my wakeboard with me to the Maldives and managed to get a ride or two behind a jetski. The island I stayed at were supposed to have a boat to waterski behind but it was waiting for parts (e.g. permantly knackered) so I persuaded them to tow me behind their jetski.

Pros:
The water temperature was obviously fantastic and the fish swimming below me as I rode was also pretty cool.
It was also rather good doing something energetic whilst on a small island designed to do nothing on, a good change from sunbathing and drinking G & Ts.
Just saying you boarded in the Maldives ;-)

Cons:
No boat and only a jetski so no wake as such.
Slightly dodgy driving as they were not used to wakeboarders and towing with the jetski - it was hold on and hope.

What I would suggest (which is bourne out of failing to get a tow in both Peru and India) is take your own board and bindings (maybe a tow-rope and jacket). I have spent many an hour calling round places trying to find a wakeboard, rope and boat combo to get on the water. I was recently in Goa for a month and found a boat, driver but no board ;-(

Now if someone could make a collapsable board ....

I know exactly what you mean. I went to my cousin's wedding in Dubai and went boarding behind the hotel's Dorey on the sea. The water was rough as hell, the driving was appalling, the board was awful, the boat was entirely unsuitable but at least I can say I did it!

I also went sandboarding in the desert while I was there - biggest disappointment of my life! All my preconcieved ideas about whizzing along & gliding effortlessly went out of the window. The camel ride I went on later was quicker!

So any ideas on how i can convince my soon to be wife that if i take my wakeboard (hopefully the new watson she has promised for my 29th in august) that i won't spend all day behind the boat boarding?

...if i can't smuggle the board then i am definitely taking my LF Transits. And if there are know boats i could always bring my own winch...

Where in Peru did you board? There were some nice coves near Lima but i don't think i would like to risk the Urubamba River! Then again there is Lake Titicaca which makes Windermere look like a puddle!

My brother boards out in KL and Dubai quite a lot as he goes there for business, He calls me while it is pissing with rain over here to say he has just been riding behind a malibu on a glassy lake in the baking sunshine.
