yeah,
Heathrow to HK, 4 hour wait HK to Manila (Cathay Pacific) - overnight in the airport, until we get connecting internal flight to Naga. was looking at all the options, and the BA route seemed to work out quickest about 18 hours. Some of the middle east stopovers pushed teh total travel time unto 23-24 hours. BA was also the cheapest (under £500). Cheers /d |

Yup, BA to Honk Kong then Cathay Pacific to Manila. Then Philipines Air to Naga airport and Cam Sur is pretty close to that aparently. I don't think any uk airlines fly direct to Mainila.
I've just spoken to the BA customer service people and after explaining that a wakeboard was 'like a smaller snowboard you use on water' they phoned through to the airport to double check with their lists. They said it was fine to take a wakeboard on for free as part of your normal bagage allowance as sporting equipment. Good news! They also clarified that you can have one bag (for clothes etc.) of up to 23kgs but it it's between 23 and 32 kgs you have to pay £25 for excess baggage. (Not sure what happens if it's over 32 kgs but I'm not planning on taking that much anyway!) Again, to confirm, they said taking a wakeboard was fine in a travel bag. They did also say that although their baggage policy had recently changed it wouldn't change again before feb but just to check online just before we travelled in case there was any additional security or check-in procedures we had to adhere to. |

No worries Dave, good to hear you're coming!
Just as an afterthought I also called Cathay Pacific to check and not such good news there I'm afraid. Normal bagagge allowance for economy travel is 20kgs. A wakeboard would be included in that allowance for the Hong Kong - Manila route. So all your bags get weighed together and anything over 20kgs is charged at HK$30 per kg (approx £2 aparently). However, as the bags should be transfered automatically at Hong Kong I'm hoping that it wont be an issue - how can they track us all down in Hong Kong airport to get the extra dosh? I' don't reckon they'll do that but I might be wrong so just be aware of the possible charges. Hope that helps - I better do some work now!! |
