My other half (who is also coming) just suggested getting it all confirmed by fax (I always knew I wasn't the brains of the outfit!) so there's no problems at check-in.

Just spoke to BA again to get faxed confirmation and they said they didn't really have anything they could send through to that effect (how about a note on headed paper? - ah well!) but they did suggest printing off the page from the web site that detailed the sporting equipment allowances with specific reference to the ski section which says one snowboard and boots in a bag is accepted (as a wakeboard is similar size to snowboard).

He also made a note on my booking that we both will be taking such items so there shouldn't be an issue at all.

To speak to a BA person to add this note to your booking just dial 0870 850 9850 and just hold (don't select any options) and you get to talk to an operator - eventually!
