Default wakeboards on Bristish Airways flights

Anyone got any experience of taking Wakeboards on BA flights? I see they now no longer take surfboards.

Anyone got any experience with this?

cheers
/d

There are people here trying to get verification at the moment. snow boards are ok so i would suggest you describe a wakeboard as a small snowboard, not a small surf board. trying to get wakeboard written into wording. will speak to the person workingo on it tomorrow and hopefully have som definitive answers.

yeah was think of the golf club idea, might just stick one club in there and pull it out if they ask me to prove it, or beat them over the head should they refuse to accept it :-)

If you say a snowboard they wont argue. Just avoid the word surfboard! Less risky, and your not lying as such! Im sure they will word in wakeboard at the moment.

The reason that they dont like surf boards and either charge extra or dont accept is not the size but the material. Surfboards are very soft and easy to damage, and snowboards are hard and durable Much like a wakeboard! So they will happily accept a wakeboard when they have it listed on their system!

Having just booked BA flights to Cam Sur for next feb I was keen to get an answer for this question so checked the Opodo (who we booked through) and BA web sites pretty closely.

Opodo understandably just refer you to the airlines web site.

The BA site mentions under their 'Sporting Allowances' page things they carry for free and things you can't carry on to the aircraft. There is no mention of wakeboards in either section, and I did a text search of the site, so I assume that they'll carry them but you will probably have to pay a bit more. However, I'm trying to talk to someone for confirmation but phone lines have been tied up all morning. I'll post the response when I get it and will be taking the 'it's like a small snowboard' aproach!

For your information check British Airways - Sporting Equipment for BA sporting equipment allowances.
