I’m at present trying to sort out the comp structure, trying to get intouch with judges and decide on an initial events timetable for each discipline. It very much depends on the number of entries.
We could do with an idea of the numbers of people wanting to compete in each discipline. eg -Wakeboard-Cable -Boat -Ski -Knee board -Wake skate (would you prefer cable or boat) -Trick ski I think also we will need to discuss the levels of comp entry as im not sure if there will be enough people in each range to run beg, inter and adv. I was thinking each uni could enter 1st, 2nd etc... teams with a decided No in each... Let us know your ideas on this and we'll hopfully be getting input from previous judges and event organisers who might be able to make our lives a little easier... Laters Gregg |

Ok
Well i quite like the idea if having teams, a team (~der de de der der~) and b teams, i think, as far as can remember thats what happened in a sense in 2002 as we turned up with 30 competitors or so. I think this would work better than beginner, intermediate etc.. In 2002 we paid one entry fee and we were entered in to all events, wakeboard, salom and kneeboard. Are thinking of paying entry fee depending on what events we want to do? I think we want to keep it as simple as possible else you might arrange events with hardly any people in it. I think 2002 there were around 80 competitors and we were all entered into every event, wake, ski and kneeboard. I dunno about your clubs but we are now mainly wakeboard based and all our skiers have made the conversion to boards, is it gonna be worth will running all these other events? Just considering cost and time as factors, just a thought. The majority of our club would be happy to see wakeboarding wakeskating (boat for a ramp!!!) kneeboarding maybe ski......... :? Yea thats sounds cool.
With reguards to cost, it will cost us depending on the no of people taking part. so it makes no difference if there are only a handfull of people wanting to do kneeboarding for eg because we would only pay for those people riding. I think even if there is only 3 or 4 people wanting to take part in a discipline then we still need to run that as a comp otherwise we're sort of cutting everyone off. I thinks the entry fee should be based on the number of people being entered as the costs will depend on the number on people riding. Do you see a problem with that? |

Just a couple of things:
Maybe we can split the cost of the comp into those using the boat and those using the cable because it's a little bit harsh asking people who would get free cable riding to cover the cost of someone who's gonna have a couple of sets on the boat. Maybe we should have a fixed rate then extra cost per boat/cable section people want to compete in. It shouldn't be that hard to sort out if people are entering in advance. Not sure if there's much point in running a wakeskate comp seeing as i don't think anyone's that advanced maybe we could do an expression session style thing. Also was thinking that it might be a good idea to email all wakeboard clubs a poster that they can print out and stick up as i've had a couple of guys email me saying that they wanted to get involved but they're uni didn't have a club, so that we can get as many entries as possible. I don't mind doing that when we've got a date for the comp Lastly when is everyone coming down again! Only saw a couple of people around today and got a bit lonely ![]() |

Sounds good gregg, i do think though we will end up with comps with hardly anyone in and hardly anyone interested in watching
hey how about a freestyle event? You can chose what ever you want to ride, say like a bin lid or a tray or the circle? Points on style and stupidity!! If you don't have style you have nothing!! |

Guys,
Colin, Nottingham. Hope everyone is good and riding well. Gregg, here is the comp structure from 2000, 2001 and 2002. Hope this is of use. 3 disciplines: Slalom, Wake and Knee. Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced in each. Everyone has to compete in all disciplines - just to make it a laugh. Slalom: If you could run the course at your respective start speed (28 mph lads, 26 mph lasses) you are advanced. Intermediate was someone who could run the half-course. A beginner was anyone else! In the beginners event we have had people attemping the course on kneeboards, wakeboards and wakeskates - all welcome! Everyone was allowed 1 fall - less pressure! Wakeboard: if you can do an invert - advanced. intermediate was someone with tricks but no inverts. beginner was anyone else. 2 consecutive 30 second trick runs (1 up the lake, 1 back down) with a double-up to kill your self on at the end. Kneeboard: Categories and format as wakeboard, without the double-up. Very few people actually do kneeboard but it was included for the minority and it turned out to be a great laugh. by far the most fun event as most people dont do it but its really easy to pick up quickly and get surface spins and stuff. Each uni could enter as many 3 man guy/girl teams as they wished (a, b, c teams etc...). Individual 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in each category for each discipline with each teams combined 3 man score going to the overall best uni prize, 1st, 2nd and 3rd again. In 2002 so many girls entered that we split the event into a guys and girls thing for the first time, but this is probably going to depend on the overall entry split when we know who is coming. The entry fee was the same for all as we had everyone do everything to make life easier for organising. 2003 was similar, organised by southampton uni, without the kneeboard event. On a personal note, after seeing some of you guys ripping up the cable at JB, a cable event could easily take place of kneeboard in the old format and be just as much fun for people who dont do. I know that would only give us a slalom event and 2 wakeboard events but lets face it, you have to draw the line somewhere and we are all wakeboard biased in terms of who does what. Nottingham is 95% wakeboarders and 5% slalom skiers with no kneeboarders, trickers or jumpers. I would imagine most other clubs are about the same. I guess decisions will have to wait til we know who is coming and what they ski on! Until then, flat water and phat tricks to you all... Laters Colin. www.nuwsc.co.uk |
