If you are interested in joining please e-mail me on:

Thanks all, maybe if i get a team together i might be able to come to the nationals.... who knows??? This would however also involve me learning to board to a reasonible level!!!! =]

hey man, its always good to hear of people wanting to set up new uni clubds, the more the merrier!!

i'm the president at Portsmouth uni's wakebaord club, feel free to either PM me, or ask here for any advice specifically, there are a few people who runs uni clubs etc here, so there should be plentyful advice

first thing i'd sugest is go to your uni sport officeer etc or whatever he/she is called there, basically teh person in charge of the uni's clubs sports, here they're known as sabatical officers and our sports officer is a sound guy called yorkie

once you've found this person you need to asked them about setting up a club there, and if its feasable etc for your uni, as not all unis like having lots of sports clubs etc and some even just have the big 4 or 8 BUSA type sports

from what i've heard from others and my own experience here, you go and tell tehm u want to set up a club, then they say "great, go and get a pettition type thing done" where you bacially have to go get 50 people to say their interested or they think it'd be a good club, note they dont have to say they've join! also 50 is what it is here, other uni's have different numbers

then once htats all clear people who are proposing a new club (ie you) have to go and explain all about the sport and club at the sports council meeting ( here its called the AU [athletics union] coouncil meeting) then eah club in attendance has a vote on wether or not to make you a club, if they vote you in you've reached the first step!

thats basically how to form the club, which i think is probably fairly generic around different unis, running it is a different kettle of fish entirely, but feel free to ask me anything u want, as i said feel free to PM or email me on:

krammit _ mc _ bong (at) hotmail . com

(sorry its all split up to stop mailer bots stealing it)

hpoe thats helped

Hmmmm,

Ok, i have put up posters around MOST of the colleges here, I have left flyers at random college bars/student esk locations (you have got to love Departmental printing facilities). A week has passed, and yet I have had NO sign of interest...

there is obviously three possible explanations:

1) I am impatient!

2) There are very VERY few people at Cambridge who are up for it

3) I am not "advertising" it well enough.

any suggestions?

JR

(i think option 1 is a given)

to behinest your going to struggle to get eh club full up and running this year, as you recruit people at the freshers fair at teh begining of the year, you wanna jump thru the hoops i gave u above to get the club set up was part of the uni if you can, once you are a club then advertise it, as if u havent set teh club up you've got nothing to advertise

but first u need to just speak to whoever to find out about what u need to do to set up the club, tehn if u do need to set up a petition jsut get mates and random passers by to sign it etc, you'll easily get enuf names that way, remember they dont have to promise to join just say that they are interested, or think its a good idea etc

once you've got teh club set up then advertise, and see if there is a "re-freshers" fair like we have at pompey its not usually massive, but u can hope to attract more attention that way if possible, things to do tehre is get a tv down with some wakebaord dvd's playing some blown up pics etc and u need to sort out where your gonna ride and how much its gonna cost, as they are the 2 most asked questions you'll get

if possible i'd suggest trying to get to a cable, as they're gonna be much cheaper even if a bit further away (hope your union will provide a minibus like it does for us) JBski does a good deal for us, or possibly MKwake if thats cloaser to you?

tho i dont think your too far away from JBski as i've had to go up your way from there a few times after riding

Problem ive always seen with wakeboard clubs is most of uni happens in the off season. What about trying to integrate it into the snowboard club if there is one?
