Default Getting round the corners ...

Hi Guys,

Ive been at thorpe the last couple of weekends (yesterday was a scorcher) i having problems with the corners on the cable at the moment. they seem to whip me forward almost every time (normally ending in an early dismount and a pulled muscle somewhere...) is it just a case of getting used to it or is there a special technique, some of the guys i saw going round did not seem to change speed or wabble on the corners ...

any pointers .... oh and im going through the yellow bouys every time ..

Paul.

Yup, it was a scorcher wasn't it?

I have been using the cable for about a month now and have found that the trick with the corners is to keep a bit of tension in the line as you approach by going slightly wide.
Go between the buoys and as the cable goes around the pulley be prepared for the change of direction.
The biggest thing is dealing with the slack if you don't quite get it right. Pull the handle to your hip so that any slack is taken up. that way you won't dislocate your shoulders and your arms willl have somewhere to go if you do get a yank.

I still got it wrong a couple of times on the corner next to the walkway on Sunday. It really snaps.

as he said get really wide. if in doubt as you aproach the corners cut hard out. then as yousee the rope go round the pulley slightly lean intot eh corner. Hope this helps.

sounds obvious but when the cable goes round the pulley make sure you have the board turned facing that direction . If you're still trying to go out wide when the direction changes then you'll end up getting yanked off your board , usually backwards .

I still get some slack but now i'm better set up to take the pull .

Look at the guy in front of you and see where he turns and what lines he takes . If you come off sit on the jetty for a while and watch a few others go past .

yer. when the person in front gets lined up for the corner copy his line. if your left foot (corners backwards) let go of right hand or the board will turn and you will catch a front edge of fall in.
