Default Whats going on at Thorpe.

Just found this..

-------------

We have been battling with the local planning authority for the past three years to obtain consent for new facilities. Sadly the local authority are completely against the idea and refused consent which was then upheld at a recent planning appeal. At the same time we have had enforcement notices outstanding over some of our buildings on site. The up shot of all of this is we have to remove the marquee and the office and reception portacabins, oh and the childrens play area !!.

They also want us to remove the MasterCraft shed and some containers but we are still in negotiation with them about this. As you will appreciate this will cause a degree of disruption and we would ask that you bear with this over the next few weeks until matters have settled down.

they never applied for planning permission on everything on site except the mouldly old cable building will give you some kind of lurgees if you use the changing rooms.
This pissed off the council a lot, and so they won't grant them planning to do what they wanted, instead they are making them tear down everything that is illegal.
there's a lesson to be learnt there!

We can all be critical of the facillities at THorpe at the moment, however the reason no money has been spent on the existing building is that had planning been granted, it would have gone by now and there would be a brand new top quality changing facility and clubhouse on the site, there would have been 2 new cables in addition to the existing cable, making it probably the best cable site in the U.K . If not Europe. Andy and Clare Cordery have been committed to acheiving this, have already invested a great deal of money in the project and quite frankly, have been shafted by the council.
With regards to the buildings that have to be removed, they are all either sheds or portacabins and the bar area which was nothing more than a large tent. There are no brick constructions. Most of these type buildings we could all put up in our own back gardens without a problem. Removing the childrens play area is just ridiculous, It is a safe wooden play area on sand, which is used all of the time. Absolutely no reason to remove it.

Rather than giving Thorpe a hard time i beleive that we should get behind them and the future plans for a smaller project, or possibly risk losing this site.

I have had a lot of great times at Thorpe since Fred started riding there just over 4 years ago,and I have made a lot of friends. Although Fred rides at Princes at the moment he always enjoys coming back to Thorpe to ride, I think this is the case with most riders who started out here.. Just ask Nick Davies....

Nick Carter.
