I'm buying my first wakeboard, Ive just learnt wake to wakes but im definately a begginer. Ive seen the obrien player138 board for sale for 200quid, and this is definately in my price range and a wicked board. Only thing is someone told me to make sure you dont get a board that will outride me, like i wont be able to handle it and that. So I think this might happen. Also I dont want to look like a lame ass turning to the lake with a wicked board, but not even be able to do any tricks yet...
Id appreciate any opinions |

Im in exactly the same position as you mate, except i cant actually do wake to wakes yet
ops: but you know...I've been told that getting an 'advanced' board would be good for me if i can afford it. Apparently it will make sure that my cuts arent sloppy and teach me to land properly. get me drift. So i think getting a good board is a good idea in the long run, partly because it will make you into a better rider in the long term, it wont be that hard to ride whatever the board... common its only a plank :P , when you do become of a better standard you will be glad that your not still on your crappy board and do not have to shell out extra money AND who cares what you look like at the lake... s'all about the riding and you'll be the one laughing when you perfect that backflip 8) Get back to me if you find out anything more that could help the both of us hard business this buying a board!Rob |

My opinion for what its worth is if you are a beginner dont go for an advanced board, and i know this flies in the face of other riders.
The reason being most advanced boards are very stiff and they generally like being ridden on an edge. As a rookie you will start learning how to edge but you don't want hard falls. I would recommend intermediate boards as they can be a lot more forgiving, especially something that doesn't have hard rails. after a season you will want to change your board any way when you are starting out and something too advanced will not help your confidence when you are dialling in a few basics. Catch a few heel edges and you will know what i mean. Any way as long as you get into wakeboarding you can't go wrong :-) All the best Robin |

I would say don't worry about what level they say the board is pitched at. The differences between how boards feel is all preference, I learnt on an intermediate / advanced board and having ridden beginner intermediate boards it didn't seem to make a whole heap of difference, yet my board was still at the right level after my first season.
And dont worry about turning up at a lake with a great board and not being able to do any tricks, it's not that sort of sport. My tip, get the best bindings you can afford, these are the most important things, these will save your ankles on a big fall. |
