Hi guys......... can anyone tell me what a fat sack is and how its used, im sure its supposed to increase wake size, but how?
Are they worth there cost or a waste of money. also what about a hydrofoil fin such as the dolefin on the outboard engine will it increase or decrease the wake, my gues is it would reduce the wake what do you think.............. 8O |

Fat sacs are basically, large water proof sacs that you can fill with water. You put them in your boat and fill them up, adding weight to the boat (you can get differant sizes from 130lbs to 600lbs) it works on the principle of the more weight in the boat the lower it rides in the water giving you more wake. Pretty much almost everyone now use some sort of weight enhancment in their boat, they do make a differance. I've put 2500lbs worth in an old nautique 2001, and it put out a really nice wake.
the foil thing, well it works (look for referance under "malibu wedge") Malibu put them on their boats and its ment to add the effect of 1100lbs, and improve wake shape. |

Thanks for the info, I checked out the malibu wedge but this is a different thing alltogether the foil i have is designed to make the stern rise out of the water quiker to get her up on a plane faster, this saves fuel as it will plane at lower RPM. I think that this will reduce the wake produced, as the fat sacks must keep the stern of the boat lower in the water therefore my foil must have an opposite effect. Anyway thanks for the response looks like the foil will have to come off and a fat sack or two will have to be purchased....Cheers.

you mean a 'hydrofoil' for a sterndrive.. yeah those things are great for getting on plane faster and keeping the nose down.. but do nothing for your wake! :P they are a worthwhile purchase but not to enhance your wake.. they don't really do much for it.. unless maybe if you trim up a bit and let it dig down.
a fat sack keeps the whole of the boat down, not jsut the stern.. if you see a boat going along with a load of weight in the back then it is almost certainly incorectly weighted. with a very high.. but not so useful wake. generally you want 60% weght in the stern and 40% in the bow.. but its no exact science... it takes a little bit of experementation to get that huge big wake that also has a nice shape to it. The thing is I have a Humber rib which is primaraly used for diving, this Obveously isnt the ideal craft for wakeboarding but as wakeboarding at the moment is a secondary hoby for me I cant just change the boat, however Im looking for any tips on how to improve her for riding a wakeboard..........best place to tow from!... how to improve wake size and shape etc....... :?
All of your tips are well appreciated thanks |

the a frame owuld be good if you can strengthenit somehow.. maybe with some straps going to the bow...
the higher the pull the better! :P Mike |
