I was just watching the news and have heard (with great relief) that the economic community in windermere will be ok after all!!
When the ban comes in next year the LDNPA are going to put a round the lake cycle route and a water bus service into operation - at last an anwser to all our problems (especially the private house owners who's land backs onto the lake and the huge number of ferries already touring windermere daily) So with the millions that are taken away form the area from 2005 onwards will be replaced by cyclists in teashops and from the revenues from the water taxies! - now that must ahve taken them all of 5 minutes to come up with... I think that its time the LDNPA really got its thinking cap on instead of pumping out crap ideas that blatently are not going to improve the situation for anyone - you're getting yourselves into this mess boys now get yourselves out!!! they clearly have not got a clue... - nows where i apologise for just venting steam! but it really p****s me off to see what is essentially a bit of propaganda pumped so easily out onto our airwaves. ooooooo, cyclists, now they're full of money
so the Ban is it only a speed limit, or is it now water contact? Because if it is only a speed ban, it would be cool if a whole bunch of people turned up to wakesurf, hahaha. I bet the LDNPA would kick themselves if that happened. |

there have been loads of people taking there boats to other lakes in the Lake District that have speed limits on them like Ullswater and Consiton. They have been wakesurfing on these lakes and have been giving the middle finger to the National Park. I think its outstanding and next year we need more people to take there boats to these other 10mph lakes and go wakesurfing.
A guy from the Save Windermere campaign told me to just go and wakeboard at full speed on these lakes. I would love to have a wakeboard on Ulswater. Appartently you can't get busted cause they don't have wardens and speed cameras. Plus a warden can't legally take your address, only a police man. And if you do get caught I was told the max fine is £20. I think the idea is that if every weekend there are five boats on Ulswater and 5 boats on Consiton all wakeboarding and water skiing then maybe the the National Park will think twice about the Windermere situation. If anyone has a boat and wants to go wakesurfing or wakeboarding on one of these lakes I would love to join you. (just sold our boat you see). Lets wait till its a bit warmer though. **** the National Park |

I'll be on windermere at easter and i definitly think some "days out" would be a good idea
I can't wakesurf so it looks like either slaloming the ducks or wakeboarding will be the jsut the ticket!! Mike |

"AN INDEPENDENT Formal Safety Assessment of Lake Windermere has found that under today's conditions no incompatibility of lake users exists, undermining the key point cited at the Public Enquiry of 1994/5 as the only reason for introducing a 10mph speed limit on the lake."
The above is a brief summary of the latest news on the www.waf.uk.com web-site. It makes very interesting reading. Don't you think that if the LDNPA were taken to court they wouldn't have a leg to stand on ?

The whole Windermere ban makes me feel sick. It is crazy, as per usual the whole world embrases and nutures up and coming sports and the uk government and it's little band of 'interest groups' (friends of the lake district have a lot to answer for, and most don't even live here) does it's damnest to make sure we live in a culture of fat kids sitting in front of the playstation with nowt better to do. Then every four years there's an uproar when we only come away from the olympics with a couple of drugs charges and bronze in brew making. it makes me so mad.
The government not only fail to provide adequate sport facilites around the country they seem to actively discourage it and there is no finer example of that than here on Windermere. As for a cycle path that totally stinks. For the last 10 years the national parks authority have criminalised cylists by closing all the decent bridleways and replacing them with footpaths which are illegal for use by cyclists. I know i used to cycle every weekend up here in the lakes. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.................... |
