Only 10 days left to let the LDNPA know what you think of their crazy scheme.
See the link above for a form you can down load and email back, it won't even cost you the price of a stamp. If you've never been to Windermere, if you dont know what county its in, if you never intend going there as long as you live, you still know that whats happening is fundamentally wrong. You know the old saying "For evil to succeed the only thing necessary is for good men to do nothing". STOP READING THIS AND DO IT!

The following is shortly to be mailed out to WAF members -
Lakes economic summit on Friday 2nd April The gross domestic product of the lakes has fallen by 15% from 1996 to 2001. The area is now one of the poorest performing in the UK, and concern about economic performance is at an all time high. On Friday 2nd April, local MP’s, MEP’s and Councillors will be meeting at the Theatre By The Lake in Keswick to discuss ideas to try to resolve the economic crisis facing the area. Of course, as tourism accounts for 45% of the gdp of the area, it could help even more if tourists were welcomed with open arms. Windermere has always been the honey pot of the Lakes, with its own special ambience. But, closing Windermere to legitimate sports such as water skiing and wake boarding is completely the wrong message to give out. The area has an abundance of “flat” water and is ideal for these high adrenalin powered water sports. And, these sports have a vital role to play in helping to attract visitors and future generations. Whether you agree with independent assessments, that the area will lose £20 million and hundreds of jobs when these sports are banned is irrelevant. What is quite obvious, is that not a penny more can be jeopardised. We need to act quickly to undo the unwelcome interference of the LDNPA in the social wellbeing and economic stability of the region, as otherwise there will not be enough wealth generated to continue to conserve it! Help us deliver this message We need some volunteers to join us on Friday 2nd April at the Theatre By The Lake, Keswick. We have created some posters for the event, and are also producing information packs for the MP’s, councillors, press and other attendees. The message is simple; “Return democracy to our Lake District National Park and stop the abuse of power by the LDNPA/ Bentley quango. Stop killing tourism and turning our heritage into a museum about all of the wonderful, healthy activities that people used to do. Instead, embrace the concept that fun loving, high spending, powered water sports enthusiasts can be a part of the areas salvation, bringing much needed income and jobs, and crossing international borders with our world beating sportsmen and women. Capitalise on the environment that was gifted to the area, and maximise the returns from high adrenalin water sports. Quite simply, don’t kill the goose that laid the golden egg.” The problems that South Lakeland faces are complex and diverse, and no single solution will retain our youth, keep people engaged in the local community, or ease the pressure on schools, shops, pubs, public services, or health support for the ageing population. There is in fact only “minority support” for a 10mph limit on Windermere, (and consequential ban on water skiing and powered water sports), and yet there will be a “total” ban in March 2005. This is unfair, unjust and undemocratic. It’s helped to undermine the economic wellbeing of the area ever since the ban was announced in March 2000. Only a fool would now continue to deny democracy and insist that legitimate sports are criminalised at the expense of economic sustainability. If you can help us on Friday 2nd April, then please email tony.kemp@waf.uk.com URGENTLY. If you cannot email, and you are serious about helping, then as a last resort I can be called on 07976 610006.
