i went out this time last year to check out the condition of a mooring. took a guy who was a navy diver with us. we broke the ice, chukked him in and laughed solidly for about half an hour as we watched him go from red to blue to a kind of strange translucent white then he threw up, hyper ventilated and floated off tward bowness face down. had a hell of a job getting back in the boat cos he had a 80 kg of negative bouyancy and tanks on him. people don't realise how cold w'mere gets. way colder than the sea like.

I skied on windermere about 3 years ago in the snow behind one of the low wood boats... I got to the point where i was lying on the floor clinging to the engine box mumrmuring something about how i jsut needed a few minutes to catch my breath then i was ready to go again... the aussie guy then said we had to go back in. Flippin spoil sport! All he had to do was squeeze me back into the bindings and i was good to go!

But yeah.. That lake gets cold!

I always remember somebody telling me that due to its size the water in Windermere never change by more that 2 degrees all year round.

Now that I am older and slightly wiser I can confirm that that was absolute ********.

have got to take my ' warm ' hat of to you DBJTS !! I cant wait to get on windermere but dry suit or not its damned cold !!

My parents boat was moored up just infront of the ship pub and cause of the rising water levels they were lucky enough that they could check their boat daily, and sometimes they could not get onto the jetty the water had risen to the top of the steps. They had lengtehned ( good spellin ) their ropes but I bet there has been some damaged boats !!

Roll on easter weekend !

New twist to the freezing and sinking theme, whilst playing out today I ripped the ankle seal on my dry suit.
Being blessed with less than average intelligence and having only been out twice I decided to carry on regardless. 8O
I now know what a semi dry suit is and dont recommend them.
