Default Storm?

Can anyone give me any info about Storm at Thorpe please?

Seen loads of shots in Aliance and went to check it out last weekend after a sesh at jb's.

Looks like a public lake with a few sliders dotted around, tried to ask some kids who were hanging around but they didn't know anything about it.

If I got a skidoo could we use it?
If it is private, do you know how owns it and can we use it if we could ask nicely? Would be quite willing to put in the time/ money to build new sliders etc if needed.

cheers
Haggis

hi,
Storm is a private lake and not a club. The deal that we have with Thorpe Park is that they let the top 15/20 riders in the UK ride there and build what ever we want, so that we have somewhere to 'train' and progress the sport, with out having to pay in riduculous rates of over £15 for 15 min's on the water.
Despite what a lot of people think, there aren't many pro riders who get paid in the UK. Most have no money and scrounge off the others who have jobs. Storm is a place that we can afford to ride at, without any grief or bad atmosphere you might get at a public club.
I've heard of some people saying that it's unfair that the good riders get the cheap tow's and all the sliders etc... but everyone involved has put a lot of money and work into getting where they are now. How are british riders ever gonna make a mark on the americans who have their own boats and lakes in perfect weather conditions, when we have to spend over £200 a week to get the same amount of water time.
Check out the 1st 2005 issue of Alliance Magazine (Stef Tor on cover) and there's a whole article about the project.
Thanks for your interest, get practicing and we might see you there soon.

Cheers for the info sim, thats really cool you guys have somewhere decent to train.
Is it actually Thorpe Park that put the restrictions on how many people can use it then? As I'd imagine it would be far much better for you guys if you could let a few 'less pro' people come ride for a bit of $$$, thus in fact subsidising the pro's riding even more.
Surely if we rocked up with our own ski and offered you tow's all afternoon you wouldn't complain?

When do you guys ride there then? would be good to chill out there for an afternoon in the sun, seeing some of ya hit that pool slider.

hi. First up, who are you? PM me if you want to remain anonomous.
We actually have a sea doo wake edition there with two boats, but i know where your coming from.
Thorpe park didn't put a limit on the number of people riding, but they did specify the 'type' of people who can ride.
Basically, they have given us a very good deal on using the lake. The lake was hired out to JB Ski a few years back, and one of the conditions was that they put on a show twice a day for their customers. This involved normally Craig O'Meara as he was the coach driving on the lake, and he names it 'Storm' after his daughter.
Now we don't want to put on show's to the public and nor are we around at specific times every day to do so. Therefore, we just have to ensure that whenever someone is riding, it looks impressive to anyone watching, as the riders are hitting the rails and learning new tricks.
Thorpe Park don't want anyone riding who looks like a beginner or a less competent rider because the public think it's part of the park, and you get hundreds of people asking if they can have ago on the boats.
At the end of the day, it is not a club, nor a profit making organization, it is a private lake that is governed by Thorpe Park and it's management.
If you have anymore questions please e-mail me on info@revertmusic.co.uk
peace
