Default Cost of running a boat

Bo!

I'm thinking of buying a boat and need to work out if I can afford it (which I know I can't, but I'll try anyway)! The question is how much does the fuel cost to run a boat i.e. how much would it cost to run one for an hour?

Cheers.

Depends on the boat.
Could get a whole days boarding on a small outboard boat for £15 - £20

V8 inboard on petrol is going to cost you £60+ a day.

I get a good 6 - 8 hours riding from my v8 mastercraft for £45 worth of LPG.

You also need to factor in all the other costs. Repairs, servicing, insurance, storage, membership fees.

The cowboy is dead on with his prices, I also run a V8 Mastercraft, but the secret is to spread the cost with those that ride with you. Start as you mean to go on. I explain to people I'm not after a proffit and most weekends only just cover the fuel bill, but just be strong with your riding mates.

Don't pay, then they don't play!

That's a bit cheaper than I thougt it was going to be. I think you're right about making sure your mates help with the bills!

'owning a boat is like standing in the shower ripping up £50 notes....its only like that because they dont print £100 notes'

like TB and SWC suggested its best to share the cost. ideally go in on buying the boat with someone and share the general yearly running costs such as services, trailor repair (if it goes near salt water), insurance, etc, etc.

oh and one more thing - choose your boat wisely - there are lots of 2nd/3rd/4th hand ones out there that should be avoided at all costs. buy new if you can as overall i personally reckon its cheaper because there arent any nasty surprises and you can normally dont lose too much on depreciation...if you have to buy second hand make sure you get it checked out before parting with any hard earned/stolen/borrowed/begged/bribed cash
